These teardrop-shaped beetles are almost half fat – an energy rich food that supports them in their 800 kilometre flight across the Rainshadow Desert.
Bumblebeetle have sensory array that can detect a mass of rotting flish miles away. They land, die and release larval grimworms to feed on the carcase.
They only live for one day and their purpose is to release the larval grimworm.
Bumblebeetles do not feed.
It is the larval stage of the Bumblebeetle, the grimworm, which breeds.
