Bumble beetles are insects pushed to the edge of specialisation by the nature of this desert. They spend their lives in search of "flish wrecks", which are a very rich food source. But it is impossible to predict when and where they will occur.

Behavior[]

These teardrop-shaped beetles are almost half fat – an energy rich food that supports them in their 800 kilometre flight across the Rainshadow Desert.

Bumblebeetles have sensory array that can detect a mass of rotting flish miles away. They land, die and release larval grimworms to feed on the carcase.

They only live for one day and their purpose is to release the larval grimworm.

Feeding[]

Bumblebeetles do not feed as adults, but their larva, called grimworms, are carnivorous.

Breeding[]

It is the larval stage of the Bumblebeetle, the grimworm, which breeds.
